Tributes to 'lovely woman' killed in Ayrshire Range Rover crash

Jacqueline Young, a 66-year-old woman from Cumnock, has died in hospital after being hit by a white Range Rover Evoque on the A70 near Cumnock, East Ayrshire. Emergency services were called to Muirkirk Road at around 8.05am on Friday, October 2, following reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian and the vehicle.

Ms Young was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later passed away. Her family have requested that their privacy be respected at this time.

Community tributes

Tributes have been paid to the local woman, remembered for “always making people laugh”. Von Gin said: “So sad. Going to miss our wee catch ups now and again. You never failed to make me laugh. Sleep tight Jackie you will be sorely missed. Think of big John and all the family.”

Kirsty Richmond added: “So so sad Jackie was such a lovely woman. Loved a blether with her. Always made me laugh. Sleep tight. Thinking of her family.” Katie Watson Brooks described Jackie as a “strong and kind woman”. She wrote: “I can't believe it. You wanted something done, Jackie would make sure it was done and done right! Absolutely gutted.. no words. Rest peacefully Jackie.”

Police appeal

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our thoughts are with Jacqueline’s family and friends at this tragic time. We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and we continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dash-cam footage from the area to please come forward.”

He added: “We know that motorists drove through the scene immediately after the crash. We are particularly keen to speak with the drivers of a dark-coloured saloon vehicle and a teal-coloured pick-up truck with a cab on the back. These drivers may have information which could assist with our investigation.”
