Tributes to GP found dead at Norfolk home

The family of Dr Hannah Cain, a GP who worked near the Sandringham Estate, have paid tribute to her after her husband appeared in court charged with her murder.

Dr Cain, 45, was found dead at her home on Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of October 4, according to the Daily Star.

Family tribute

On Wednesday, her family described her as “kind, generous and loving” and highlighted “the great care she took of all her patients”. Mark Cain, 45, of Fern Hill, Dersingham, was arrested and later charged with her murder. He appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday wearing a black jumper.

He only spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth, and was not asked to enter a plea. Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court that emergency services contacted police at 2.25am on October 4.

Court details

Ms Hanlon said Dr Cain was “found in an upstairs bedroom not breathing, not conscious” and was “attended to by paramedics”. She said a post-mortem examination “noted blunt force injury to the right side of her head had been inflicted, also an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck”.

She added: “There were children present in the property at the time.” District judge Matthew Bone told Cain: “I send your case to the King's Lynn Crown Court where you will appear tomorrow (Thursday) in the morning, and I remand you in custody.”

Family statement

Norfolk police later issued a statement from her family, which read: “We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Hannah. She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend.

“We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry. We would ask people to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

The Fern Hill site is just over a mile from Sandringham House, among royal properties owned by the King and Queen. Dr Cain, who practised under the name Dr Hannah Terry, was listed as a member of the healthcare staff at Grimston Medical Centre. She served within a rotation of GPs regularly available to members of the Royal Family, as first reported by The Sun.

According to the website for her commercial venture Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, Dr Cain had been in medical practice for over 15 years and had served as a GP for eight. She described herself as a “caring and professional doctor” who balanced her GP duties with her cosmetic business.
