Footage posted on social media captured the harrowing moment students clambered out of a fourth-floor window as thick smoke engulfed the building.
Children Stranded on Second-Floor Roof
In the video, at least eight children can be seen shimmying along a small ledge on the second-floor roof to reach safety. Emergency sirens blare in the background. One witness reported seeing several children fall onto the roof just moments before responders arrived.
The witness, who posted on X in Japanese, described the scene as terrifying, noting that the children could not use the normal evacuation route due to the smoke. Plumes of thick, dark grey smoke billowed from the school's windows, while another group of students gathered outside the building in the distance.
Evacuation and Safety
The witness confirmed that all children and teachers who escaped through the window were safely evacuated. According to local news reports, approximately 300 people were evacuated from the school, and all students and staff are believed to be safe.
