Three Saudi citizens have been killed and several other people injured in two attacks on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, for which Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility.
Attacks target airport facilities and Saudia aircraft
The first attack late on Thursday targeted facilities at the airport, while the second struck a stationary aircraft belonging to state carrier Saudia, officials said. The attacks also resulted in "injuries to a number of Saudi citizens and residents of various nationalities", the country's General Authority of Civil Aviation said in a statement on X.
Deadliest attack since military offensive
It marked the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia since the country and its allies in neighbouring Yemen launched a major military offensive last weekend against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation did not identify those responsible, although the Houthis claimed they had targeted the airport with a ballistic missile.
Previous attack and normal operations resume
The airport has come under multiple attacks, with a Sudanese national killed there earlier this week. The Saudi civil aviation authority also indicated that operational activities had returned to normal.
