A teenage girl has been shot dead in a horrific spate of violence that gripped London over the weekend. The 19-year-old was found with fatal injuries in the early hours of Monday, June 8, following a series of separate incidents that left a promising musician stabbed to death and another victim fighting for their life.
Murder Investigation Launched
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after the teen was discovered dead at a house in Dale Grove, Finchley, north London. Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 12:15 a.m. following reports of gunshots. A police cordon remains in place as detectives carry out inquiries.
Neighbour Kaz Saj expressed shock, saying: "I'm gobsmacked. A 19-year-old female shot?"
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo said: "Our thoughts are with the young woman's family at this incredibly difficult time as they begin to come to terms with their loss. We understand the concern this incident will cause within the community. While our inquiries are ongoing, residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days, and I encourage anyone with concerns to speak with officers."
Anyone with information, doorbell or dashcam footage from around midnight in or near Dale Grove is urged to contact police.
Musician Stabbed to Death
The young woman's death came after singer-songwriter Talay Riley was found by paramedics with stab wounds in the garden of a property in Silvertown on Friday morning. Despite efforts to save his life, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Talay, whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, had been handed a record deal at age 18 but was most influential as a songwriter, penning tracks for artists such as Dua Lipa and Britney Spears.
Another man in his 20s was also treated for multiple stab wounds and remains seriously ill in hospital, though his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
Arrests Made
Three people were arrested on suspicion of murder following Riley's death. A 27-year-old man has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, while a second man and a woman, both aged 25, have been released with no further action.
The weekend's violence saw police and paramedics respond to six separate emergency incidents between Friday, June 5 and the early hours of Monday, June 8. The community remains on edge as investigations continue.
