A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham, leaving him in a critical condition.

The shooting occurred on Bowyer Road, near St Saviours Road, at approximately 5:30pm on July 1, 2026. Police were called to the scene and the victim was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

According to West Midlands Police, the 17-year-old suspect was arrested later that evening on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
