Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Sarr has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in a 20mph zone in north London.
The 24-year-old Senegal international was driving a Mercedes G-Class AMG when it was recorded at 25mph on February 23, just after 2.30pm. The incident occurred the day after Spurs lost 4-1 to Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Court hearing and penalty
Sarr pleaded guilty to speeding in Green Lanes, near Finsbury Park in Haringey, at a hearing last week. The case was dealt with in private under the single justice procedure.
On Thursday, Magistrate David Marritt, sitting at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, disqualified Sarr from driving for six months. The midfielder was also ordered to pay a £666 fine, £130 in prosecution costs, and a £266 victim surcharge.
Details of the case
Court documents show Sarr admitted being the driver when first contacted by the Metropolitan Police. He was offered a fixed penalty fine in June but did not pay it, prompting a full criminal prosecution.
The court documents do not state whether Sarr had previous penalty points on his licence. The Met’s prosecution was allowed to continue despite submitting unreadable images of Sarr’s driving licence to the court.
Sarr did not offer any mitigation when submitting his guilty plea in writing and gave a Tottenham Hotspur official’s details as a point of contact.
Career impact
Sarr has made more than 100 appearances for Spurs since joining the Premier League side in 2021. He was loaned to Juventus last month after being squeezed out of the first team by new midfield signings.
