Dashcams have become a common fixture in many vehicles, but they occasionally capture shocking scenes on Scotland's roads. From a woman thrown from a motorbike in Glasgow to a lorry dropping logs onto a motorway, these clips highlight the dangers drivers face.
Woman Thrown from Motorbike
Motorcyclist Eve was moving through slow-moving traffic on Pollokshaws Road in the south of Glasgow when a car turned right across her path. The impact threw Eve from her bike, and she suffered a nasty fall to the ground. A nearby pedestrian ran to her aid and called emergency services. Footage shared by Motorcycle Law Scotland helped Eve secure a settlement more than three times the original offer.
Overtaking Car Flip
In Forth Valley, a driver captured the moment a 'reckless driver' flipped his car after attempting to overtake. The dashcam footage showed a SEAT car driving toward a Porsche before clipping the back of it and flipping across the oncoming lane. The incident occurred on the A907 Clackmannan Bypass, with no serious injuries reported.
Near Miss After Overtake Attempt
Earlier this year, dashcam footage emerged of a terrifying near-head-on collision on the A92 in Fife. A black 4x4 attempted to overtake a white car in a no-overtaking zone marked by double white lines. The driver narrowly missed an oncoming car, pulling back into their lane by inches.
Car Flips on Motorway
Emergency services were called to the M90 near Crossgates in Fife in 2023 after a car flipped onto its roof. The driver was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy as a precaution. Dashcam footage showed the car mounting the grass verge before rolling over. Several motorists stopped to assist.
Lorry Falls Off Bridge onto Motorway
In one of the most terrifying clips, wooden logs fell from a motorway bridge as a lorry crashed on the carriageway above. The incident on the M8 near the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow saw a van hit by the load, and the camera car swerved to avoid a crash. The motorway was paralysed for hours during rescue efforts.
