Seven people have been arrested in connection with a stabbing and assault in Blakelaw, Newcastle, as police continue their investigation into the June 5 disturbance on Springfield Road.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to Springfield Road shortly before 10pm on June 5 after reports of a group of men fighting. A man sustained a non-life threatening stab wound to his leg, and a teenage boy suffered minor injuries to his back after being assaulted. The assault was allegedly carried out by occupants of a van that crashed into a property fence.
Arrests and Bail
Northumbria Police confirmed on Monday that seven males – aged 16, 19, 21, 22, 35, 50 and 55 – were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. The 55-year-old was later released with no further action. The remaining six were released on police bail pending further inquiries.
A police spokesperson said: “Seven people have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a disturbance on Springfield Road in Blakelaw, Newcastle on June 5. … While enquiries remain at an early stage, it is believed those involved were known to each other and there is no wider risk.”
