Robertson criticises Scotland after Slovenia defeat

Andy Robertson criticised Scotland's performance after they lost 2-1 to Slovenia at Hampden Park, admitting the team were 'outfought' in the Nations League clash. The Tottenham defender was unhappy that Scotland surrendered a first-half lead, with Ryan Christie's goal cancelled out by second-half strikes from Aljosa Matko and Danijel Sturm.

Robertson's frustration

Speaking to BBC Sport Scotland, Robertson said: "Not good enough. The whole team. We didn't do the good things we did on Saturday, I don't know what that's down to. They caused us a lot of problems and we have to find the reasons why."

He added: "We wanted to kick on from Saturday because we had a really positive feeling about what we're doing and where we're going. We didn't do that. It's been a long camp, I don't know if it was down to tiredness, but Slovenia have played the same amount of games as us. They looked a lot fresher, more hungry."

Outfought at Hampden

Robertson, who earned his 100th cap in Saturday's 2-0 win over North Macedonia, was clear about the team's shortcomings: "As Scotland, we might lack quality or make mistakes, but I don't think people accept being outfought. I think that's what happened tonight."

He also downplayed his personal milestone: "I don't care about myself too much in terms of personal achievements. I know this one's been massive for me and I'm not taking that away from me. It was amazing that my three ex-managers came. I can't thank them enough for that."

Pocognoli's record

The defeat means new manager Sebastien Pocognoli has won just one of his four games since replacing Steve Clarke. Scotland remain winless at Hampden Park under him.

Scotland sit on four points after as many games and can no longer win Group B1. They will need favours from Switzerland and North Macedonia to have a chance of finishing second, which would secure a play-off place in March. Scotland host North Macedonia on November 13 before travelling to Switzerland three days later.
