A close friend of a personal trainer whose body was discovered in a forest has revealed that her pal was 'scared for her life' in the days leading up to her disappearance.
Disappearance and Discovery
Fitness instructor Elena Katherine Moore, 39, went missing on June 11, a week before her body was tragically found in a wooded area on June 17. She was reported missing by her husband the day after she was last seen leaving a fitness center in South Carolina, US.
Friend's Concerns
Now, Moore's friend Sondra Campbell has claimed that something felt 'very different' in the lead-up to her tragic disappearance and death. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Campbell said: 'She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me.' When asked why she was so frightened, Campbell described Moore as responding, 'I can't talk to you right now. There's too many people around. But we've got to talk one-on-one.'
Campbell explained that the disappearance was completely out of character and 'not her.' She added: 'Elena was such a good person and I think we're just all trying to wrap our heads around this, but my friend would not be alone walking at night time. She just wouldn't be. It's not her.'
Social Media Silence
Another friend, Lauren Beasley, noted that Moore had stopped using social media in the lead-up to her disappearance. 'She is very active on social media so her going radio silent for the last month is out of character,' Beasley said.
Investigation Ongoing
According to the Lexington Police Department, Moore was last seen on June 11 after signing in at Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way at approximately 6:40 p.m. Investigators said surveillance footage later captured her walking away from the gym toward the wooded area behind a nearby Lowe's Home Improvement store. She was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. The investigation into her disappearance and death remains ongoing.
