A person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat on a Tyneside housing estate on Saturday morning. Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to an address on Waterville Road, in Meadow Well, North Tyneside, at around 11.25am.

Emergency response and cordon

A section of the road was cordoned off as firefighters tackled the blaze and brought it under control. One person was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, in Cramlington, for treatment.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a fire at a private address in Meadow Well, North Shields on Saturday October 3 at 11.25am. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader and one HART crew (Hazardous Area Response Team) to the incident."

Fire brought under control

The spokesperson added: "One patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSEC) for further treatment."

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the blaze was out at around 12.30pm and that crews remained on the scene to help board-up the property.
