Passenger arrested after trying to open plane door mid-air

A 33-year-old man was arrested after allegedly trying to open an emergency door on a Lufthansa flight from Bogotá to Frankfurt, forcing cabin crew and fellow passengers to restrain him until the aircraft landed.

Incident unfolds mid-flight

The man reportedly jumped from his seat and began shaking an emergency exit during the flight. Crew members repeatedly ordered him to stop, but he allegedly ignored their instructions, according to the Daily Star.

As alarm spread through the Boeing 787, two passengers stepped in to help cabin crew pull the man away from the door and hold him until the aircraft touched down in Germany, reports Bild.

Arrest and aftermath

Lufthansa said the flight was able to continue as scheduled before the man was arrested on arrival. Upon touching down in Frankfurt, he was taken into custody on suspicion of endangering air traffic.

A police spokesperson said: "Due to his condition, the man was taken to a nearby psychiatric hospital."
