One person has been taken to hospital after two vehicles collided on a busy crossroads in Gateshead. The incident happened on Sheriffs Highway, at the crossroads with Kells Lane and Broadway, in the Sheriff Hill area, at around 8.55pm on Thursday, October 1.
Emergency services at the scene
Northumbria Police confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service. The force said no serious injuries have been reported as a result of the crash, which took place just down from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The single patient who required further treatment was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, with the North East Ambulance Service deploying two crews to the scene.
Vehicles recovered and traffic restored
The vehicles were recovered just after 9.45pm, with traffic on the road returning to normal soon after.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on Sheriffs Highway in Gateshead on Thursday 1 October at 20:53."
"We dispatched two ambulance crews to the incident. One patient was treated on scene and one patient was taken to QE Hospital for further treatment."
