Nightmare Neighbour Drills Into Property, Homeowner Seeks Revenge

A homeowner has described a nightmare scenario where neighbours drilled into their property without permission, leaving them feeling 'tired and dejected' after police allegedly dismissed their concerns. The incident, shared on Reddit's 'Neighbour's From Hell' forum, has sparked calls for documented revenge.

Drilling Without Permission

The homeowner explained that for the second time, their neighbour drilled new hooks into their garage roof from the neighbour's side to hang a tarp. When they called the local police, officers reportedly took a look and told them that because the garage wall faces the neighbour's yard, the neighbour could do what they wanted. However, the homeowner had already obtained a property survey and free legal counsel indicating that legally, the neighbour could not do this. When they tried to explain this to the police, the officers allegedly yelled at them, said it was a civil matter, and stated they would not 'deal with this again' before storming off.

Additional Noise Complaint

Compounding the issue, another neighbour was playing very loud music. The homeowner reported keeping all windows and doors shut at night but still feeling vibrations in furniture and windows. Outside, the music measured over 100 decibels as recorded by their phone, though they acknowledged the reading might not be fully accurate. When they called law enforcement, a police officer reportedly said she could not hear any music until standing in the neighbour's driveway and advised calling only after 10pm. The homeowner waited until 10pm and called again but received no response. The music finally stopped around 1-2am.

Emotional Toll and Advice

The homeowner wrote: 'Combined with other stressors in my day-to-day, work and other things, I just feel so incredibly tired, dejected and stupid' for purchasing a property in the area without doing more research. Reddit users urged them to seek revenge by documenting everything and re-presenting it to the police. One user suggested: 'You're not a fool, you're just stuck in a nightmare neighbourhood with zero backup. Document everything and escalate to your city council.' Another advised: 'Hot take but you gotta start matching their energy. Put a massive speaker facing their wall and blast something awful the second they stop. Only way these people learn is their own medicine.' A kind user recommended building a paper trail with dates, times, recordings, and police reports, noting that code enforcement or municipal noise complaints might have more teeth than standard police calls.
