Nick Knowles Steps Back from TV to Care for Wife

Television presenter Nick Knowles has announced he is stepping back from broadcasting to care for his wife Katie, who suffered serious complications after a hysterectomy. The DIY SOS host, 63, is taking time off work following Katie's medical emergency.

Details of the Medical Emergency

Katie, 36, a lingerie businesswoman, was rushed to hospital when her cervix ruptured just weeks after their June 2025 wedding at Braxted Park Estate in Essex. She had undergone a hysterectomy last summer after enduring "years of pain" from polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, and adenomyosis.

Twelve weeks into recovery, the stitches ruptured, causing what she described as "crippling abdominal pains." On social media, she called the ordeal "the most terrifying day I've ever had." She recounted: "Saturday when it happened I was in so much pain I couldn't move or walk and just cried on my own on the kitchen from 2-5.30am."

Emergency Treatment and Surgery

Katie was rushed back to hospital for emergency treatment, with doctors considering multiple surgical options, including potential bowel repair. She said: "There was talk of my bowel having been perforated, having to have open surgery and another lumbar puncture."

With Katie facing another significant operation, Nick told the Daily Mail he needed to "disappear for a while." He explained: "I've been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it." Nick called Katie "a warrior and a fighter" despite his ongoing concerns about her health.
