Newport Flat Boarded Up After Persistent Anti-Social Behaviour
Newport Flat Boarded Up Over Anti-Social Behaviour

Police have boarded up a flat in Newport, Wales, after a court issued a three-month closure order due to persistent anti-social behaviour (ASB) and disorder. The property, located on Alma Street in the Pillgwenlly area, has been sealed off, and its occupants have been ordered to leave and find alternative accommodation.

Court Order Granted After Resident Complaints

Gwent Magistrates' Court granted the closure order on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following repeated reports of disorder from nearby residents. The order expires on October 2, 2026. During this period, anyone attempting to enter the property commits a criminal offence and may be arrested.

PC Claire Drayton, a crime and disorder reduction officer (CADRO) with the Newport neighbourhood policing team, said: “We had calls about anti-social behaviour (ASB) linked to this address and people living in the area felt they were not able to live in peace and comfort.”

Police Action During Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week

The closure order was secured during Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week, a national campaign to highlight the impact of ASB and encourage reporting. Drayton added: “This closure order is a direct result of our officers responding to concerns from residents. I would like to thank residents who spoke to me about the issues at this house and provided the evidence needed to secure this closure order.”

A Gwent Police spokesperson urged the community to report concerns: “We would urge anyone with concerns about ASB or other criminality in their community, to contact us so that we can act. Call 101.”

Impact on Residents and Community

The property on Alma Street had been a source of persistent disorder, with residents feeling unable to live peacefully. The closure order aims to restore calm and deter further ASB in the area. Police have increased patrols and encourage continued reporting of any issues.
