Mum with brain injury after Westlife concert dies

Danielle O'Keane, the 37-year-old mother-of-two who suffered a "life ending brain injury" in a road traffic collision in Dublin after attending a Westlife concert, has died in hospital. The incident occurred at around 11pm on Saturday night as she was travelling home from the gig.

Crash after Westlife concert

Danielle, from Newry, was heading to Dublin city centre with friends after seeing Westlife at the 3Arena when the rickshaw she was travelling in hit a curb. She was rushed to the nearby Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and placed in Intensive Care on a ventilator.

After fighting for her life in hospital for several days, Danielle passed away from her injuries on Thursday, October 1. Her death notice on Funeral Times reads: "O' Keane (nee Mullan) (Saval, Newry) died 1 October 2026 as the result of an accident.

Family tribute

"Danielle R.I.P. Much loved wife of Dave and dear mother of Caolán and Cillian. Beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and dear sister of Barry and her twin Sean. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul."

The notice added: "Funeral arrangements later. Deeply regretted by her sorrowing husband, children, parents, brothers, sisters in law, brothers in law, mother in law Dolores, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, family circle and friends."

Community support

The local community has rallied to support Danielle's family, with over £115,000 raised through a GoFundMe page. Derek, Danielle's brother-in-law, told the Irish Mirror that she was due to head to Mallorca on Monday for her first family holiday with her two young boys and husband.

Derek described Danielle as having a "heart of gold" and being "full of life" with "so much to look forward to". He said: "She was the most sweetest girl you'd ever meet in your life, full of life, full of energy, heart of gold."
