A mass shooting at an outdoor concert in Lexington, Kentucky, has left one person dead and four others injured, including two children. The incident occurred at Charles Young Park on Saturday night, August 15.
Victims and Injuries
Lexington Police Department confirmed that five people were shot. Four victims, including two adults, a 14-year-old, and a 4-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries. The fifth victim died from their injuries.
The youngest victim has been identified as a four-year-old child. Police have not released details about a suspect or suspects, and no arrests have been made.
Witness Account
Divine Carama, co-founder of One Lexington, a gun violence prevention initiative, said he was inches away from one of the victims when they were shot. He wrote online: "My heart is broken. This evening we had a shooting at the park with multiple victims and one fighting for his life. While trying to keep four young people covered and safe during the shooting, a person eight inches from me was shot tonight…. It’s been 20 years since I’ve been THAT close to gunfire."
He added: "Opening fire in a peaceful event, broad daylight, with women and children present is unacceptable! What part of the game is this?????"
