Just after 3:40pm on Thursday, June 25, police received a report that a man in his 60s had been attacked on Hoole Road in Woodchurch. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before he was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his shoulder and ribcage.
Armed police make arrest
Armed officers later arrested a 40-year-old man from Noctorum on suspicion of section 18 assault. He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside where he will remain in custody.
A police scene remains in place on Hoole Road, cordoning off all shops including a chippy, pharmacy, Sayers and Co-Op. The Meadow, which connects Hoole Road by the Co-Op to Pemberton Road, is also taped off. Several police cars, uniformed officers, a police dog and detectives are at the scene.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Inspector Andy Schofield said: "An investigation is underway after a man has suffered a serious injury on Hoole Road as a result of the offender’s actions, and is getting the care he needs in hospital. Although our officers have made a swift arrest just hours after the assault, we are appealing to anyone who was on Hoole Road at around 3.40pm to get in touch with police. At the time of this incident, it would have been busy with people coming home from work or visiting shops in the area so please contact us if you saw what happened."
He added: "Knife crime has no place on our streets and it is vital that those responsible for carrying or using knives are found and brought to justice. If you know anything about this incident, or have information about those carrying, storing and using knives in Merseyside, please come forward and we will continue to take action."
