A father-to-be has died following a tragic rock climbing incident in California. Andy Paul Ferrarone was scaling near Castle Rock in Big Bear on July 12 when he slipped on a rocky slope and fell around 20 feet, suffering a catastrophic head injury.
Details of the accident
At approximately 5.25pm local time, the 33-year-old lost his footing on a rocky incline, according to police. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Aviation Unit rushed to the location and administered CPR before Ferrarone was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He remained on life support for several days while receiving treatment.
Death and aftermath
Tragically, on July 15, Ferrarone passed away. He leaves behind his wife Nina, who is nine weeks pregnant, according to the Mirror. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to provide financial assistance for Nina during this challenging period.
A statement on the fundraising platform says: "Nina is 8 weeks pregnant, and while she bravely committed to keep the baby, she now faces the challenge of preparing for parenthood alone." The statement adds: "As a flight attendant, Nina took time off work when she learned she was expecting, and now she must navigate rent, a mountain of medical bills, and the costs of welcoming a child without Andy by her side."
Donations will help cover life support medical bills, rent, and baby supplies. The fundraising effort has generated roughly $58,000 (about £43,000) for Nina so far.
