A 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian was struck by a car in an alleged hit-and-run in Glasgow city centre. The incident took place on Glassford Street, with emergency services called after the alarm was raised at around 4.35am on Sunday, October 4.

Pedestrian hospitalised after early-morning crash

Ambulance crews attended the scene and the male pedestrian was rushed to hospital for treatment. His condition currently remains unknown. Police quickly launched a probe and officers have now confirmed that the 34-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 8.

Separate assault nearby proves fatal

The incident took place just an hour and a half after 21-year-old Daniel Colrain was seriously assaulted in a separate incident nearby on Royal Exchange Square. Around 3.05am on Sunday, officers were called to a report of a disturbance involving a group of men. Daniel was taken to hospital, but despite the best efforts of doctors, he sadly passed away on Monday. Another man, also aged 21, sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Police confirmed today that a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Daniel's death. He is the third man to be arrested following the incident in the Merchant City and the only man arrested in connection with the death. A 20-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date after he was arrested and charged in connection with the disturbance. Previously, a 19-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the disturbance, and he has been released pending further enquiries.
