A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault at a park in Wishaw, Police Scotland confirmed. The incident occurred at Pather Park football pitches near Caledonian Road on Wednesday, June 17, at approximately 4:05 PM.
Victim hospitalised after attack
Emergency services responded to the scene, and a 47-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. The nature of his injuries has not been disclosed, but police initially described the incident as attempted murder, sparking a major investigation.
Social media images showed a large area of the park cordoned off as officers carried out forensic examinations. The park remained closed for several hours as inquiries progressed.
Suspect due in court
Police have now charged the 29-year-old suspect, who is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 June 2026. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an assault on a 47 year-old man near Caledonian Road in Wishaw around 4.05pm on Wednesday, 17 June. He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 June, 2026. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out further charges. The victim's condition has not been updated since the initial hospitalisation.
