A decapitated body has been discovered in the middle of a street in central Lisbon, Portugal's capital, prompting a murder investigation. The head was not found near the remains, according to police.
The body was located on Patio Salema, a narrow street near a major tourist site and picturesque square, at approximately 6:45 am local time. The area remains cordoned off, and the victim has not yet been identified.
In a separate incident, the body of a woman in her 50s was found in the boot of a car nearby just hours earlier. Passers-by noticed a smell coming from the vehicle, and her belongings were inside, suggesting she may have been living in the car. Police initially investigated but ruled out foul play, believing she suffered a heart attack while getting changed.
Lisbon is considered one of the safest cities in Europe with a relatively low crime rate. The investigation into the decapitated man is ongoing.
