A 20-year-old university student who died after being stabbed in Leicester has been named as Khaleed Oladipo. The De Montfort University cybersecurity student from London succumbed to a stab wound to the chest, according to a postmortem examination.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Police said initial inquiries suggest Oladipo was involved in an altercation with another man, who left the scene before officers arrived.
In a statement released by Leicestershire Police, Oladipo's family described him as an 'extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend'. They added: 'Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him.'
Emergency services were called just after 5pm on Tuesday after reports of a man collapsing. The East Midlands Ambulance Service took Oladipo to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he died shortly after. The incident caused major disruption and road closures as forensic teams conducted examinations.
De Montfort University Vice-Chancellor Prof Katie Normington said the university was 'devastated' and offered support to students, staff and the victim's family. Oladipo's family thanked members of the public who tried to help and said they would seek justice.
