Four pedestrians were injured in Leicester city centre on Saturday evening in what police have described as a collision involving a vehicle that failed to stop. Three of the men were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Incident details
Leicestershire Police said the incident occurred on Vaughan Way at 10.12pm on September 26. The pedestrians were crossing the road at a crossing towards the junction with Highcross Street when they were involved in the collision. A silver vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
Following enquiries, a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed limit for alcohol, and causing grievous bodily harm. The man remains in police custody, and a vehicle believed to be involved in the collision has been identified.
Police appeal
The force issued an appeal to the public, urging anyone who witnessed the collision or any party beforehand to make contact. Officers also asked drivers in the area with dashcam footage to come forward.
Police said the incident is being treated as isolated, and officers will be conducting enquiries in the area. They asked people not to speculate about the circumstances and to share only factual information from genuine sources.
Road reopened
Vaughan Way was closed while enquiries were ongoing but has since been reopened. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 or report via www.leics.police.uk, quoting crime number 26*580044.
