Jet2 has released a statement after a father-of-three died following an incident aboard a flight to Manchester Airport, during which he was reportedly restrained by passengers and crew. Callum Kerr, 35, from Warrington, was travelling with his girlfriend on a flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, on June 21 when the incident occurred.

Incident Details and Police Response

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that officers were called to Manchester Airport at 2:25 am on Monday, June 22, following reports of a man behaving aggressively toward passengers and crew. According to the police statement, the man assaulted another passenger and a cabin crew member. When officers arrived, Kerr was being restrained at the rear of the aircraft by passengers and aircrew.

Police used handcuffs to detain him but quickly noticed he was unresponsive. They administered first aid and CPR before he was taken to hospital, where he died on Tuesday afternoon, June 23.

Jet2's Official Statement

A Jet2 spokesperson expressed condolences: "We are aware that a customer has sadly passed away, having been taken to hospital earlier this week. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the customer’s friends and family. As investigations are ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time."

Family Tributes and Investigation

Kerr's family described him as "a family man, father to three beautiful young children, a lover of sport and with a heart of gold." GMP has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is investigating the actions of officers involved. Detectives from GMP's Major Incident Team are also examining the circumstances on the flight. The IOPC stated it would "look at the actions and decision-making of the officers involved to understand the events surrounding the man's death." Police confirmed Kerr was not under arrest and no arrests have been made.
