An influencer mum with tens of thousands of followers was found dead along with four members of her family, hours after sharing a disturbing post on social media. Cindy Tamez was discovered with her two-year-old son, Gustavo, inside a Jeep in Montemorelos, Mexico, on Wednesday morning.
Her other two boys, 11-year-old Bruno and 12-year-old Christian, along with her partner Leodegario Moya Garza, 28, were found dead at the family home a few blocks away.
Investigation underway
A handgun, a mobile phone and a cartridge were found inside the Jeep and are now part of the investigation. Prosecutors have also searched the property and are analysing CCTV footage to reconstruct what happened.
An attorney said local media that the initial indications are that Tamez shot her partner and children before taking her own life, and that a full investigation is underway to establish the facts.
Social media posts
Tamez, believed to be aged around 33, posted a clip from inside a moving car that read: “Not everyone knows my nasty side. I’d burn down my own house just to watch my neighbour’s go up in flames, even knowing I’d get f***** over too.”
Other posts she published on social media read: “I can take it, but I can give it back twice as hard, so don’t think I give a f*** – I can be twice as much of a c*** as you.” Another said: “I’m probably just as much of a piece of s*** as you, or even worse, but I never screw someone over unless they’ve screwed me over first.”
Background and next steps
According to reports, Tamez, whose full name is Cinthia Abigail Tamez Rivera, was allegedly involved in lending money and organising informal savings schemes. She also reportedly bought, sold and raffled items including vehicles, chains, watches and mobile phones. She had tens of thousands of followers on social media, where she posted snapshots of her daily life, including off-road vehicles and parties, and appeared to project an image of affluence.
As part of the investigation, neighbours told authorities they heard loud music coming from her property in the early hours of Wednesday. Other reports said there may have been a gathering at the house that night. Prosecutors are investigating whether her moneylending activities were connected to the tragedy.
