Dr Hannah Cain, a 45-year-old GP, was found dead at her home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of October 4. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with her murder.
Family tribute
Dr Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found dead at the property close to the Sandringham Estate. Her family paid tribute to her, describing her as "kind, generous and loving".
In a statement, they said: "We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Hannah. She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend."
Court appearance
Mark Cain appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday wearing a black sweater. He spoke only to state his name, address and date of birth and was not asked to enter a plea.
Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court that the ambulance service contacted police at 2.25am on October 4. Dr Cain was "found in an upstairs bedroom not breathing, not conscious" and was attended to by paramedics.
Post-mortem findings
Ms Hanlon said a post-mortem examination "noted blunt force injury to the right side of her head had been inflicted, also an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck". She added that "there were children present in the property at the time".
The family asked people to respect their privacy at this difficult time.
