Four men have been arrested and charged after a skip lorry ploughed into a residential property in Edinburgh. The incident took place on Tuesday, May 26, on Brand Drive in the Portobello area, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

Police Operation and Arrests

On Thursday, June 18, police executed warrants across six properties in Kilmarnock and Darvel, leading to the arrest of four men aged 24, 31, 39, and 41. They have been charged in connection with the crash and are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 19.

Detective Inspector Gavin Howat emphasized the importance of proactive policing, stating, “Criminality affects the lives of local people on a daily basis. Operations such as these disrupt criminal activity as well as addressing the concerns raised by local people. I would like to reassure everyone that we will continue with our proactive, preventative approach to tackle crime and its associated impact.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that the arrests were made in connection with culpable and reckless conduct. The spokesperson added, “It follows an investigation into an incident on Tuesday, May 26, when a lorry crashed into a house on Brand Drive in Edinburgh. No-one was injured in the incident. In the early hours of this morning, officers from various departments and policing divisions executed warrants across East Ayrshire. Six properties were searched by police in the Kilmarnock and Darvel areas resulting in the arrests and seizure of items in connection with the incident.”

The four men are due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 19.
