Firefighters are tackling a blaze at the derelict Rheola House in the Neath Valley. The fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon, and crews were sent to the scene along with a water bowser and fire officers, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
Fire contained within property
Images from the scene show smoke billowing into the sky, but the fire service has said the fire is contained within the derelict property and has not spread to the surrounding area. A spokeswoman for the fire service said the building was "well alight" and that crews remained at the scene on Tuesday evening due to the unsafe structure of the property.
Historic estate
Rheola House and estate, situated in the Upper Neath Valley between Glynneath and Resolven, includes a Grade II*-listed 10-bed manor house. According to British Listed Buildings, the house was built between 1809 and 1818 and was designed by renowned architect John Nash. More recently, part of the estate was an aluminium factory, but that has since been demolished.
