The family of a mother who died during a disturbance at her Edinburgh home had already suffered tragedy after her former partner died in mysterious circumstances in Spain 15 years ago.
Chris Lindsay passed away in a Costa del Sol hospital aged just 34 in October 2011, five days after he was found collapsed in a street. The father of three had been on a trip to Calahonda with workmates and became separated from a colleague during a night out. A post-mortem found he died from multiple organ failure, but Chris's family believed he was attacked.
Double tragedy for family
Vikki Soloman, who was Chris's partner at the time of his death, was found dead at a home in the East Craigs area of Edinburgh on Monday. The 44-year-old was found with serious injuries after emergency services were called to a property on Craigievar Square at around 8.45pm. Ambulance crews attended but she died at the scene.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
Vikki was just 30 at the time of Chris's death and the couple shared a child together. Speaking at the time, Vikki said Chris had been working hard to provide for their son and his death had left the family bereft. She said: “We just can’t believe it. We’re just all numb now. I think we’ve been through every emotion every day. I think some answers would help us, just give us a little a bit more peace.”
Previous investigation dropped
Speaking in February 2023, Chris's father said he felt "betrayed" by the Spanish justice system after the investigation into his death was dropped. The family were convinced Chris was the victim of a violent attack, a theory supported by one of the nurses who treated him on admission to hospital, but a judge decided there was not enough evidence to proceed.
In the years following his death, Vikki had opened her own aesthetics business in the capital, named Vikki Soloman Aesthetics, which focused on personalised skin treatments. Her friends and family have been left devastated, with tributes paid on social media. She was described as "beautiful" and "a diamond" by those who knew her.
Lisa Mullen said: "Thoughts to friends and family! You are a diamond a beautiful person, until we see each other again. You will always hold a special place in my heart." Arlene Mill added: "You were beautiful inside and out. I'm gonna miss our wee chats putting world to right. Can’t take this in. Thoughts are with all the family."
Police investigation ongoing
Forensic officers were seen combing a property on Craigievar Square. A blue Mini Cooper advertising her business could be seen parked in the driveway behind a police cordon. A single bouquet of flowers were also seen laid against the garden fence. The Mid Yoken pub, just over a mile away, has also been locked down and is being guarded by police, with their presence linked to the investigation.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A woman has died following a disturbance at a property in Craigievar Square, Edinburgh. Emergency services were called to the incident around 8.45pm on Monday, July 20. A 44-year-old woman was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin are aware. A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing. There is no risk to the wider public and a police presence will remain in the area while enquiries continue."
