Drunkard Banned From Booze After Hurting Officer With Flapjack

Kristen Naylor, a 29-year-old violent drunkard, has been handed a three-month drinking ban after throwing a flapjack at a police officer's genitals while in custody. The incident occurred at a police station after Naylor was arrested for assaulting his father, during which he also punched a dog.

Assault on Father and Dog

Prosecutor Katie Lord explained that Naylor's father, John, had been staying at his mother's house following surgery. Naylor returned after an hour in a 'very drunk' state, leading to an argument. John declared he had 'had enough' and attempted to leave with his two dogs, stating he knew what the defendant was like when drunk. Naylor pursued his father, demanding he 'give him his dog back', and tried to grab a lead before pressing his forehead against his dad's. He then threw punches at John's head.

John retreated, crossing the street and asking a neighbor to mind the dogs. Naylor threatened: "If you touch my dog I'll kill you." He continued to follow John and punched him numerous times, causing him to fall. During the 45-second attack, John begged his son to let him stand up. One of the dogs was 'caught' by Naylor during the assault.

Arrest and Custody Incident

Officers were summoned, and PC Shepherd responded. Naylor declared: "I could make your life hell." He proved 'obstructive' while being placed into a van and transported to custody. At the station, he was given a Pot Noodle and a flapjack. He threw the Pot Noodle at the officer but missed, then launched the flapjack, which struck the officer in the genitals, causing what the officer described as 'sharp and immediate pain'.

Judge Kenderik Horne remarked: "I think he also felt sick." Naylor's defense barrister, Richard Bridgen, chose not to present mitigation after the judge indicated the probable sentence.

Sentence and Conditions

Naylor received a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days, a three-month alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement, and a six-month mental health treatment requirement. He must also pay £150 in prosecution costs.

Naylor, of Lower Nook Meadow, Lowton, Wigan, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, and assaulting an emergency worker by beating.
