A homeowner whose neighbour's dog repeatedly used their lawn as its personal toilet has shared their creative revenge plan, which they claim worked out perfectly and went viral online.
Posting on Reddit, the homeowner explained that their neighbour's golden retriever had developed a habit of doing its business in exactly the same spot on their grass every day. When they asked the dog's owner to put a stop to it, they claimed he refused to take responsibility.
Neighbour Refuses to Take Responsibility
The homeowner described their next-door neighbour, Rick, as the sort of person who "owns two grills but no shirt", drinks beer in his driveway at 10am and considers property boundaries more of a suggestion than a rule. Rick owned a large golden retriever named Duke, who was friendly but regularly relieved himself in the centre of the homeowner's lawn.
Initially, the homeowner approached Rick courteously and asked if he could keep Duke on a lead or clear up after him. However, they claimed Rick looked them directly in the eye and said: "It's all nature, bro. You don't own the Earth."
They attempted several conventional solutions, including mending the fence, fitting a motion-activated sprinkler and applying a citrus deterrent, but none proved effective. They claimed Rick simply laughed when he saw the sprinkler and told them: "Nice try, but Duke's built different."
Creative Revenge Plan
That was the moment the homeowner decided to give Rick a taste of his own medicine. They began gathering Duke's droppings into a bucket lined with a bin bag. After roughly two weeks, they claimed to have collected sufficient material to produce what they described as a "cursed soup".
While Rick was out one Saturday morning, they took the bucket and sprinkled the contents around his garden, concentrating on the area surrounding his deck and his beloved fire pit. Upon returning later that day, Rick apparently detected the smell almost straight away. They recalled him asking: "What the hell is that smell?". The homeowner, relaxing on their porch with a coffee, promptly called back: "Smells like nature, bro."
Neighbours Speak Out
The revenge didn't end there. The homeowner began posting frequent updates in the neighbourhood Facebook group whenever Duke deposited another unwanted gift on their property. One post read: "Found: steaming hot dog present near my mailbox. If this belongs to you, please collect your property before it fossilizes. Thanks!".
They also began placing small 'Do Not Poop Here' signs across their lawn, adorned with glitter and googly eyes. Some were composed as passive-aggressive haikus. One read: "Dear Duke the Pooper. This is not your golden throne. My grass feels betrayed."
Furious, Rick marched over and demanded: "Are you trying to make me look bad? !" to which the homeowner simply responded: "Buddy, I don't need to try."
According to the homeowner, other local residents began coming forward, claiming that Duke had also been leaving his mark in their gardens. With several neighbours apparently facing the same issue, Rick ultimately took action. The homeowner claimed he constructed a proper fenced enclosure for Duke and began walking him on a lead — bringing the daily lawn deposits to a final end.
