In a separate event, a man is in a critical condition in hospital after a punching bag machine fell on him during a confrontation in Toxteth. Emergency crews were called to a parade of shops on Berkley Street just before 7pm on Thursday, October 29, following reports of a disturbance.

Officers found that a punching bag machine had been knocked over and landed on the man, who is in his 50s. He suffered a severe head injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Merseyside Police has clarified what happened after the incident was initially falsely reported as a stabbing. Two tarpaulin sheets are visible on the ground near the tent. An investigation is underway, with officers making witness appeals and examining CCTV footage in the area.
