A 30-year-old father died after being hit by a bus while riding an electric bicycle on the wrong side of the road, an inquest opening has heard.
Details of the crash
Joshua Dean Roberts, from Sedbury, was riding an e-bike on the A48 in Pwllmeyric near Chepstow on July 7 when he collided with a bus. He was travelling on the wrong side of the road at the time, Gwent Coroners' Court was told on Monday.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene. Mr Roberts was taken to the major trauma unit at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he died four days later on July 11.
Post-mortem and inquest
A post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as subdural and subarachnoid haemorrhage and haemorrhagic contusions, 1b road traffic collision, with part two, adrenal and liver laceration.
Coroner Rose Farmer said enquiries are ongoing and adjourned the inquest until April 12, 2027.
Family tribute
Mr Roberts' family said they are "absolutely heartbroken". In a statement earlier this month, they said: "We as a family are absolutely heartbroken over the death of Josh who was the most amazing daddy, son, grandson, brother, and uncle.
"Everyone who knew Josh knew he always had the cheekiest of smiles and was known as a ‘loveable rogue’. He touched the hearts of so many people and was so loved.
"We as a family just want to thank everyone who was so selfless at the scene and did the best they could. A piece of us will forever remain broken but fly high Joshy, we’ll see you soon."
