Dad, 52, dies after cardiac arrest at work

Tributes have poured in for Simon Holtham, a 52-year-old skip driver from Stockport, who died after suddenly falling ill and suffering a cardiac arrest at his workplace, United Junk Skip Hire. He was declared dead on Monday, July 20, despite efforts by his workmates to revive him.

Family and friends remember a devoted father

Simon, who lived in Offerton, leaves behind his partner of nine years, Amy, and their four-year-old son, Freddie. His close friend Carl Morris, 51, spoke to the M.E.N about the loss. "He was my best mate from growing up, from when we were kids," Carl said.

Carl described Simon as someone who "would have done everything for you" and "always made sure everybody was alright before himself." He added: "He was a big Liverpool and Stockport County fan. We've done lads holidays, nights out, weddings, christenings and he asked me to be the Godfather for his lad."

Fundraising to support the family

Recounting the day of Simon's death, Carl said: "He's gone into work and not felt too clever. He's passed out and gone into cardiac arrest. They tried to revive him at work but they couldn't revive him."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Amy and Freddie, and it has nearly reached its £5,000 target less than a week after going live. Carl explained the funds will help them as they face the future without Simon.

Celebration of life announced

A celebration of Simon's life will take place at Stockport Crematorium on Friday, August 28. Attendees are asked to wear Liverpool FC and Stockport County FC shirts for the occasion.
