A young couple were caught on camera allegedly performing a 'sex act' on a Venice water bus, with passengers watching the scene through a glass door.
The incident took place on an ACTV vaporetto as it journeyed through the city in Italy's northern Veneto region over the weekend.
Footage shows couple at back of boat
Footage appears to show the pair at the back of the public transport boat, separated from the main passenger cabin by a set of doors. The young woman is seen with her hands pressed against the glass and her trousers down, while her partner stands behind her.
Other passengers remained on the other side of the glass, with at least one traveller using their phone to capture the spectacle. The video later spread on social media and came to the attention of management at Venice public transport operator AVM-ACTV.
Conflicting reports on timing
Local reports indicate that the couple were aboard the number 1 service travelling from St Mark's Square towards Piazzale Roma. There are conflicting reports about whether the incident occurred on Friday or Saturday evening.
Despite the presence of other passengers, the crew were reportedly not alerted to the couple's alleged encounter. ACTV officials stated that staff would have stepped in had they been informed.
Police handed footage
The footage has also reportedly been handed over to local police in Venice. Public transport boats in the city are equipped with CCTV cameras, which could assist authorities in identifying the duo.
In Italy, performing obscene acts in a public place can result in fines of up to EUR 30,000 (GBP 25,782). The offence can escalate to a criminal issue if it occurs in front of minors. Authorities also have the power to follow up on such incidents without needing a formal complaint to be lodged.
