Christa Pike's first words after botched execution revealed

Lawyers representing Christa Pike have revealed her first words upon waking up after her botched execution. The killer survived two lethal injections last week before being rushed to hospital, where she remains in Nashville.

Two questions after waking

Speaking to the press outside a courthouse in Tennessee, her lawyer told reporters that Pike asked two questions as soon as she woke up. She said: “Where am I and who are you?”

The lawyer added that Pike was “angry and confused” and “very aware that the state tried to execute her”.

Swelling described as 'extraordinary'

The lawyer also described “extraordinary” swelling to her hands, which he said looked like “if you tried to blow up a surgical glove”.

Pike appeared in court today following the botched execution. Her legal team addressed a press conference outside the courthouse to share details of her condition and state of mind since regaining consciousness.
