Child killer stabbed 25 times in prison attack

Chilling CCTV footage from HMP Wakefield has captured the final moments of child killer Kyle Bevan, who was stabbed 25 times by three fellow inmates. The attackers, Mark Fellows, Lee Newell, and David Taylor, were each handed a whole life order for the murder at Leeds Crown Court on June 19, 2026.

Attackers followed Bevan into his cell

The footage, released by the Crown Prosecution Service, shows the three inmates laughing and joking before following Bevan, 33, into his cell. They stabbed him repeatedly in the neck and torso, then tucked him into bed to make it appear he was sleeping. Prison staff discovered his body the following morning.

Bevan was serving a whole life sentence for the murder of his two-year-old stepdaughter Lola James in Wales. His killers had also committed multiple murders.

Killers' criminal histories

Mark Fellows, 45, known as 'The Iceman', had previously shot dead gangland figures Paul Massey and John Kinsella in Salford. In the CCTV, he is seen wearing blue plastic gloves. Lee Newell, 57, had already committed two murders: strangling his neighbour Mary Neal in 1988 and killing child killer Subhan Anwar in HMP Long Lartin in 2013. David Taylor, 64, admitted murdering Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, whose body has never been found, and attempting to murder a police officer who interviewed him about her disappearance.

Judge's remarks on sentencing

Sentencing the trio, Mrs Justice McGowan said they took weapons to the cell and cornered Bevan, with at least two holding his arms as he was stabbed. 'He was left to bleed to death – his last moments must have been terrifying,' she said. Addressing jurors, she noted it was 'outside of my experience to sentence someone for their third murder'.

Fellows and Newell were already serving whole life orders. All three received a new whole life order for Bevan's murder, ensuring they will never be released.
