Merseyside Police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may hold vital information following an assault on a food delivery rider outside a Burger King in Liverpool city centre. The incident occurred on Lord Street on the morning of Tuesday, June 9.
Details of the Attack
The delivery rider was sitting outside the fast food restaurant when he was approached by two men. According to police, one suspect picked up his bike while the other took hold of his delivery bag, and the pair attempted to walk away. The victim chased after them to recover his belongings but was punched twice in the face during the confrontation. He sustained minor injuries.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Officers arrested a 41-year-old man, formerly from Whiston and of no fixed address, on suspicion of attempted robbery following a search of the area. He has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue. Detectives have conducted extensive CCTV and witness enquiries and are now appealing for public assistance to identify a man captured in a released image.
Appeal for Information
Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: "This was a disgraceful and unprovoked attack on an innocent man who was out working, trying to earn money. I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened who has not already spoken to the police or who has CCTV footage of the incident to assist in the investigation. I am appealing to the man featured in this image, or anyone who recognises him to come forward. We believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries."
