The Byker community has been left devastated following the death of a young man in his 20s after a suspected assault on Shields Road. Emergency services were called at 7:25 PM on Tuesday, June 16, where the victim was found with serious injuries. He later died at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Emergency Response and Arrests
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched two emergency ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, and the Hazardous Area Response Team. The Great North Air Ambulance also landed at a nearby Home Bargains car park. The victim sought help at The Raby pub before paramedics arrived. A 16-year-old boy and two men aged 24 and 22 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
Community Reaction
Residents expressed shock and sadness. One local said, "It's absolutely awful news. Life had barely started for him." Another added, "It's heartbreaking hearing someone has died, no matter what age. But when it's someone so young, it really hits you." A section of Shields Road remains closed for forensic examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton of the Major Investigation Team stated, "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family. We have launched a full investigation and arrested three people. We urge anyone with information to come forward."
