Emergency Response and Investigation

The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre received an alert reporting that a young girl showing signs of drowning had been pulled from a hotel swimming pool and required medical assistance. A coordinating nurse in the operations room confirmed during a call with the lifeguard that the girl had gone into cardiac arrest and provided instructions to begin resuscitation maneuvers. Two ambulances and a medical helicopter were deployed, but advanced life support efforts were unsuccessful.

The Civil Guard, under the coordination of an investigating judge, is leading an ongoing probe into the girl’s death. At this stage, authorities believe it was a tragic accident with no suspicious circumstances.

Second Recent Drowning Incident Involving British Child

This tragedy comes just days after another British four-year-old boy died after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday home near the Costa del Sol. Police and paramedics responded to the rural property, and a helicopter was also mobilized. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Periana Town Council issued a statement expressing condolences to the family, saying: 'Today is a deeply sad day for our town. On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the child who has passed away. There are no words that can ease such immense grief, but we do wish to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time. The whole of Periana shares your sadness and stands with you in your grief at such a painful and unjust loss.'

Safety Concerns and Ongoing Investigations

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about pool safety for young children on holiday. Authorities are urging parents to remain vigilant and ensure constant supervision near water. The investigations into both deaths are ongoing, with no indications of foul play. The British Foreign Office is providing consular support to the families involved.
