The first picture has been released of a 21-year-old British student who died fighting in Ukraine, as tributes pour in. Arkadii Petrov had fled to Scotland with his family but was killed after he returned to fight against Russian troops.
Petrov promised his mum he could "come home alive", according to reports. He and his family had moved to Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, when he was a teenager, after Russia's illegal 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
A student's journey from Scotland to the frontline
The young man had been a pupil at Kirkcudbright Academy and enrolled at Edinburgh University in 2022. He later travelled back to Ukraine to fight against Russia.
Tributes have been paid to Petrov following his death on the frontline, with the image showing him in military gear during his service.
