Lewis Quinn, a 27-year-old from Fenham, Newcastle, was left seriously injured in a quad bike accident on the first day of his holiday in Zante, Greece. The crash occurred on June 6, 2026, shortly after he arrived in Kalamaki with his father John Quinn and family friend Shaun Clark.
Details of the Accident
John Quinn said the group had hired quad bikes to explore the area. The following morning, the rental operator notified them of the accident. Lewis was found in serious condition and was rushed to hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator. He suffered a fractured arm and a fractured jaw in two places.
Medical Complications
Lewis's recovery was complicated by internal bleeding into his lungs, which triggered an infection that developed into pneumonia. After nearly two weeks, he is now conscious and recovering, but it is unclear when he will be fit to return to the UK.
Father's Ordeal
John Quinn, a tattoo artist, described the experience as "very, very difficult," stating, "I've never experienced stress like this in my life." He added that Lewis has been under sedation and becomes agitated when they try to remove the breathing tube.
No Travel Insurance
Lewis, who lives in Bedford with his partner, did not take out travel insurance before the trip. His friend Shaun Clark launched a GoFundMe appeal to cover medical costs, which has raised nearly £7,000 so far. John said the funds were originally for repatriation but are now helping cover his partner's travel and accommodation expenses.
Financial and Logistical Challenges
John has considered cashing in his pension but said it would take three weeks. He is staying near the hospital but struggles with short-term accommodation as high season approaches. "I'm worried I won't have a bed; it's all very, very stressful," he said. He hopes to fly home with Lewis but has no idea when that might be possible.
The GoFundMe appeal continues to accept donations to support Lewis's immediate care.
