A 14-year-old schoolgirl was found dead and partially clothed in a wooded area in Brazil, with condoms discovered near her body. Residents reported hearing desperate cries for help before her remains were located.
Discovery of the Body
The body of Iasmyn Eckhardt da Silva was found on June 14 in Foz do Iguacu, a city in western Parana state near Brazil's borders with Paraguay and Argentina. A local resident discovered the teenager on a plot of land near the junction of Avenida Sabia and Rua Sergio Gasparetto and alerted authorities.
Military Police officers cordoned off the area as forensic experts examined the scene. Investigators said Iasmyn had sustained severe injuries to her head and face, and the primary line of inquiry is homicide.
Evidence at the Scene
Detective Marcelo Pereira Dias, leading the investigation, stated that the teenager was found in a wooded area showing signs of violence and without her clothing. A blood-stained concrete block was discovered close to the body, suggesting it may have been used in the attack.
According to the Scientific Police report, the cause of death was traumatic brain injury caused by blunt force. Investigators are also examining whether a sexual offence may have occurred, given the circumstances. Evidence recovered at the scene, including condoms, is being analyzed.
Witness Accounts
Residents told police they heard an argument and cries for help during the early hours of June 14. Witnesses also reported hearing a car and a motorcycle leaving the area shortly afterwards. Detectives are working to establish whether these vehicles are connected to the crime.
Family Reaction
Iasmyn's aunt, Elizani Rotela, said: "Iasmyn was brutally murdered, unfairly, if there can ever be a reason that justifies such a cruel crime against a girl who had her whole life ahead of her." Family members are providing police with information about events leading up to the teenager's death.
Iasmyn, who would have turned 15 on July 9, was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute before being released to her family. Her funeral took place on June 15 at the Municipal Sao Joao Batista Cemetery. No arrests have been made, and police continue investigating the motive and those responsible.
