Police body cam footage shows Ideel Shad, 22, weaving in and out of traffic on the M6 northbound motorway near Lymm, Cheshire, before dangerously driving at high speeds down the hard shoulder, barely missing cars in the left-side lane. Moments later, debris is thrown across the tarmac after he smashed into a lorry.
Arrest and Sentencing
The bonnet of the white BMW 4 Series - which has a top speed of 155 mph - is crumpled and Shad is standing next to it on the phone when officers from the Cheshire Constabulary Roads and Crime Unit arrive. The boy racer was subsequently arrested during the incident, which happened around 1:10pm on Friday, June 5.
After being read out what he was being arrested for, he quipped: "Do you see why I didn't stop now?" He later pleaded guilty to offences including dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
Court Outcome
Shad, from Lancaster Road, Brierley Hill, was sentenced to ten months in prison suspended for 18 months, at Chester Crown Court on 11 August. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Sgt Andy Brett from the Roads and Crime Unit said: "Shad's driving was reckless and dangerous. He put other road users and himself in harm's way, the consequences of which don't bear thinking about. To drive like that in busy traffic was idiotic and has resulted in this conviction. I hope he now realises that illegal actions have consequences."
