An eight-year-old boy tragically lost his life during a World Cup viewing party in what police suspect was an accidental drowning. Taylor Thach was celebrating at a friend's home when the incident occurred.
Incident Details
Officers were called to the residence around 7:30 p.m. on June 12, according to reports. First responders attempted to resuscitate Taylor before rushing him to a medical center. He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre, where he later passed away. Eric Atkinson, Investigations Lieutenant from El Segundo Police Department, stated that every sign points to accidental drowning. However, no autopsy has been conducted yet, and police are still collecting statements from attendees.
Community Response
The community has set up a GoFundMe page to support Taylor's family. The initial $5,000 target was surpassed within four days, with over $83,000 raised. Funds will go directly to his mother Sokunthea, father Somnang, and brother Jordan Thach.
Tributes to Taylor
Taylor is remembered for his kind heart and friendly spirit. A neighbor who organized the fundraiser described him as a beloved student at Center Street School, known for his affectionate and polite nature. He often asked others how they were doing and wished them a good day.
The fundraiser page states: 'It is with unimaginable sadness and heartbreak that we share the loss of Taylor Thach... He brought joy to those around him. As a community, we are struggling to make sense of such a devastating loss.'
All funds raised will help ease immediate expenses and allow the family time to heal. The community is asked to keep the Thach family in their thoughts and prayers.
