Detectives have launched a rape investigation after a woman was attacked in a north London park. Police and paramedics were called to Parkland Walk in Crouch End at about 10.30pm on Tuesday.
Suspect in custody
A boy, 16, has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He has been remanded in custody. The neighbourhood has been left reeling after the alleged attack.
Forensics officers and search teams have been at the scene scouring for clues, while officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries. The park was still cordoned off as locals expressed their fears in the wake of the attack.
Community reaction
Teacher Oliver, 32, lives on the edge of the park. He told Metro: 'This is very worrying. It's a lovely neighbourhood and this is a huge shock. There have been forensics officers and loads of police here. This is a nice family area, this is just obviously very concerning, and we need to know if it's safe to use the park.'
A mother-of-two, who works in graphic design, said: 'It's frightening to think what happened in our lovely park. We are not sure if it's safe to go out and use the park, especially as everyone uses it as a cut-through. It's a nightmare, and we feel as if our safe bubble here has been burst.'
A dog walker told Metro: 'Parkland Walk is a green oasis around here. To think that someone was attacked there like that is so upsetting. It makes me wonder if it's safe to walk my dog there, something I have been doing for more than 10 years. It's a sad state of affairs.'
Another resident said: 'There is petty crime in the park, but nothing like this. My kids play here, but I'll have to put a stop to that. The park used to be a green safe haven, but not anymore.'
Police appeal
Detective Inspector Warren Ingrey, who is leading the inquiry, said: 'We are aware of the concern that the community will have following this incident. Police patrols have been increased in the area, and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to officers. We would also encourage any witnesses or anyone with information about what happened to please come forward as soon as possible.'
