A 13-year-old boy has died following a house fire in Blackpool that police believe was started by an e-bike, while a 19-year-old victim remains in critical condition.
Victim Identified as Coby Keogh
Lancashire Police confirmed that the boy, Coby Keogh, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, July 5, after being rushed to hospital alongside Joey Gregory, 19, on Tuesday, June 30. Emergency services were called to Redcar Road at 9:37 am following reports of a blaze.
Mother's Heartfelt Plea
In a Facebook update on Saturday, July 4, Joey Gregory's mother wrote: "We were told on Tuesday that the first 24-48 hours were critical. Then they said 72..... We are on day 5 and my boy is still here. Keep fighting sunshine, we ain't going nowhere." She added that the family is grateful for support and urged continued prayers.
Investigation Underway
Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the cause. A police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with Coby's loved ones at this time, and they are being supported by specially trained officers. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner." Officers stated there is no evidence of third-party involvement and believe an e-bike sparked the fire.
Other Injuries and Appeal for Information
Three other individuals in the property suffered minor injuries. Police urge anyone with information to call 101, referencing log 0451 of June 30. Advice on charging e-bikes is available via Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
